Overview
The Swahili Certificate Program at St. Barnabas Business College (STBBC) is a foundational program designed to develop proficient, confident, and culturally aware Swahili speakers who can communicate effectively in academic, professional, and social contexts. As an official language of the East African Community (EAC) and a working language of the African Union, Swahili is increasingly essential for regional integration, trade, diplomacy, and cross-border cooperation. South Sudan's membership in the EAC and its expressed interest in adopting Swahili as a second official language make Swahili proficiency a strategic asset for professionals and students alike.
This comprehensive certificate program provides students with a solid foundation in all core language skills, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary development. The curriculum is designed to bridge theory and practice, with a strong emphasis on practical communication skills through interactive exercises, group discussions, role-playing, and real-world language use that prepare graduates for immediate application in academic, professional, and social settings.
Students gain practical experience in composing clear and effective written communication, delivering confident oral presentations, comprehending complex texts, and engaging in meaningful conversations across a variety of contexts. The program also covers essential topics such as business Swahili, East African culture and civilization, translation and interpretation, and Swahili for international relations. Graduates emerge as confident, articulate Swahili speakers ready to contribute to South Sudan's regional integration, pursue higher education, and compete in the East African job market.
